Johannesburg - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has sent heartfelt condolences to the Gwala family following the death of radio personality Xolani Gwala.
As the news of his death spread on social media, listeners, colleagues and friends paid tribute to the seasoned broadcaster on Twitter.
"Xolani devoted his life tackling and documenting issues of human interest particularly those affecting the socio-economic and political status of South Africa," said the statement released by the SABC.
"During his tenure at the SABC, his paramount concern was to fulfil the mandate of the SABC by building an informed society."
The SABC said that the veteran broadcaster played a pivotal role in the development of the media industry and his overall contribution would continue to serve as a well of knowledge for aspiring broadcasters."
The statement continued, saying: "Xolani will be remembered for his enthusiastic engagements that captivated his audiences and encouraged public debates."
