Tweet sent from Babes Wodumo's Twitter account: 'I’m finally free from that controlling monster'

Cape Town – An unsettling tweet sent from "Gqom Queen" Babes Wodumo's Twitter account on Sunday afternoon has caught the attention of her fans and followers online.

The tweet reads: "Moving on from kwi Abusive relationship is not easy. I’m finally free from that controlling monster."

It's not clear if Babes herself tweeted the message as she's claimed many times before that her Twitter account has been hacked.

The tweet doesn't identify anyone and provides no further details, but a second tweet reads: "Angazi ukuthi ungi shayelani"(I don't know why you are/he is hitting me).

Both tweets were sent from the "Twitter web app" accessed via desktop and was followed up with a promotional tweet for an event also sent via the desktop Twitter site.

Babes and her partner Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumulo have made headlines time-and-again for their explosive and often violent relationship.

Earlier this year Babes, real name Bongekile Simelane, opened a case of assault against Mampintsha and later withdrew it after a video surfaced of him reportedly physically abusing her.

A statement released on Babes' Twitter account after the incident stated that she was too "emotional about the situation" to do any interviews. She later also failed to show up at a press briefing regarding the matter.

Last month the muso made fun of singer Lady Zamar’s acne in a video posted on her Twitter account. She then denied that it was her but later admitted to DRUM that it was her.

Babes' tweet comes at a time when femicide in South Africa is making worldwide headlines. The recent and gruesome murders of UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana, boxing champ Leighandre Jegels, and many more crimes against women and children in the country has sparked outrage and has seen massive protest taking place.

The shocking death of Uyinene has also seen the rise of several movements including #AmINext, #EnoughIsEnough, and #RealMenDont.

Channel24 has reached out to Babes for comment and will update this article if any is received.
