Cape Town - We caught up with reigning Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, about her first pageant, difficulties along the way and how she deals with negativity.

Ntando recently competed in the Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines where she flied our SA flag high. Check out all the pics here.

The search for the next Miss South Africa has already been narrowed to 12 gorgeous women. Here's a little more about each of them

Here's what Ntando had to say about her reign:

Before Miss SA, did you enter any other beauty pageants?
I was Miss Mamelodi Sundowns Gauteng, Miss Mpumalanga and a Miss Earth finalist.

What has been the highlight of your Miss SA journey?
The many projects that have changed peoples lives.

Did you experience any difficulties along the way?
Yes, just like any other job you will encounter difficulties, that's how we grow.

How would you like your reign as Miss SA to be remembered?
The girl that made everyone she came into contact with feel like somebody.

Any words of encouragement for the current Miss SA finalists?
Have fun and be in the moment. The crown is amazing but its the little steps to the crown that will make this experience worthwhile.

What was it like representing South Africa at Miss World and Miss Universe?
It was one of my proudest moments, I truly enjoyed sharing my country to the world. As much as the world has a perspective on SA, hearing stories from a South African changes that perception.

All we see on TV is the glitz and glamour, what is it really like behind-the-scenes?
30% of your reign is glamour, everything else is hard work, early mornings and late nights.

How do you deal with negative comments?
I have came to the understanding that people will say what they want to say. Which is a right they have. But their negative comments have nothing to do with me. It's theirs not mine.
