  • Charlize Theron is putting those engagements rumours to Sean Penn to rest.
  • The Academy Award-winning actor says the two "dated". "That was literally all we did, we dated," she tells Howard Stern in an interview.
  • She did, however, reveal the true "great loves" of her life.

Charlize Theron says rumours she was going to marry Sean Penn is "such bullshit".

The Bombshell star spoke to Howard Stern on Monday on his SiriusXM show to promote her new Netflix superhero film The Old Guard, reports E! News. The radio personality asked about her current relationship status before suggesting she "almost got married to Sean".

The 44-year-old responded: "What? That's not true. No. I did not 'almost get married to Sean', that's such bullshit.

"No, we dated, that was literally all we did, we dated."

She added: "It was a relationship, for sure. We were definitely exclusive, but it was for barely a year. We never moved in. I was never going to marry him. It was nothing like that."

Charlize dated the Mystic River actor for about a year and a half before the two split in 2015, reports People.

She said in her interview, marriage has never really been something she thought too long and hard about though. "I never wanted to get married. That's never been something that's important to me," she said.

"On the lives of my children, I've never been lonely. I've never felt alone," she added, calling her two children Jackson and August, the "great loves of my life".
