Gaming world shocked by death of beloved Twitch streamer Byron 'Reckful' Bernstein, 31

Byron Bernstein has died. He was 31 years old.

The Twitch streamer and former professional Esports player, better known by his online alias 'Reckful' is thought to have died by suicide, reports Variety. His death was confirmed by his brother, Gary Bernstein, on social media.

News of his death has seen an outpouring of support on social media as the 31-year-old has built a big following online. Forbes reports that Byron's Twitch channel was playing a replay of an old stream at the time they reported his death, and it was being viewed by 40 000+ people.

Reckful was a popular name in many gaming circles – for a time the World of Warcraft player was one of the top in the world. According to the publication, one of his greatest achievements in the gaming community was placing rank one in six consecutive seasons of World of Warcraft.

He was also working on a game called Everland expected to be released later this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Twitter accounts for Twitch, World of Warcraft and Hearthstone paid tribute to the gamer. Twitch called Bryon a "streaming pioneer" and shared a powerful message about mental health.

"As we process this loss, we have to recognise that the stigma around mental health and treatment often prevents people from seeking and getting the help they need," they wrote.
