Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet's break up may have come as a shock to many, but insiders say the couple's split didn't happen "overnight".
The couple announced in a joint statement earlier this month that they were "parting ways in marriage".
The two first met in 2004 before dating and tying the knot in 2017. They share two children together, Lola Iolani Momoa, 14, and Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa, 13, while Lisa also shares Zoë Kravitz, 33, with singer Lenny Kravitz.
A source tells People the A-list couple was "amazing for years, until they no longer were". "They have grown apart because of different focuses."
The insider adds of Momoa: "A few years ago, Jason was struggling to find work. Now his career is booming. And he wants to keep working as much as he can," while Lisa Bonet "has had no interest in joining" Momoa "on every location". "She enjoys her life in LA."
The insider assures, though, that both Momoa and Bonet are approaching the situation maturely and putting their children first.
"It's not going to be some scandalous divorce where they trash talk each other," they say. "They are both very spiritual and believe in a higher power."
