Nicole Kidman is opening up about her "happy" marriage to Tom Cruise.
The couple married in 1990 and were together for over 10 years before divorcing in 2001. They adopted two children: daughter Isabella Jane Cruise and son Connor Cruise.
Now, in an interview with The New York Times, the Big Little Lies star is speaking out about working with her famous ex, and the impact it had on their marriage playing husband and wife in a turbulent relationship in the Stanley Kubrick film Eyes Wide Shut released in 1999 – two years before they announced their split.
After being asked if the role impacted their marriage, the 53-year-old said: "That fits the narrative that people came up with, but I definitely didn't see it like that."
She added: "We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We'd rent out a place and go racing at 3 in the morning. I don't know what else to say. Maybe I don't have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I'm not willing to."
She went on: "This is where the fallacy is: We loved working with him [Stanley Kubrick]. We shot that for two years. We had two kids and were living in a trailer on the lot primarily, making spaghetti because Stanley liked to eat with us sometimes. We were working with the greatest filmmaker and learning about our lives and enjoying our lives on set."
After their split, Nicole went on to marry Keith Urban and welcome two daughters with the country singer, while Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes and welcomed 14-year-old Suri before the Dawson's Creek star filed for divorce in 2012.
