Rust star Jensen Ackles has recalled one of his last moments with cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Halyna was struck in the chest when Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on the set of the low-budget western on 21 October. The 42-year-old was declared dead hours later.

Sharing photos of Halyna on set, Jensen wrote: "This has been a tragedy of epic proportions that we are all still processing."

The actor recalled a moment he shared with the cinematographer just days before her death.

"Earlier last week I felt compelled to tell Halyna just how awesome I thought she was. I told her how incredible I thought her camera shots were and just how exciting it was to watch her and her team work. Truly."

According to Jensen, Halyna laughed, thanked him, and they shared a hug.

"I'll forever be thankful we had that moment. She had a spunk and passion that infected the entire crew from the top down."
