TikTok star Siya Kakkar, 16, dies

Siya Kakkar has died. She was 16 years old.

The Indian star, who rose to fame on the video-sharing social media platform TikTok, died by suicide on 25 June, according to India Today. Her manager Arjun Sarin confirmed the news writing on Instagram: "No more words. You will always be the best artist. Rest In Peace."

According to CNN, the 16-year-old was a prominent personality on the platform with more than 2 million followers. She shared recreations of popular memes, short skits and videos in which she was lip-syncing.

Her last video taken atop a rooftop of her mouthing words to an audio clip was viewed over 21 million times.

Many fans of the social media star paid their respects on Friday, with actor Jay Bhanushali saying on Instagram: "Condolences to the family of @siya_kakkar."

Photographer Viral Bhayani also wrote on Instagram that he spoke to Arjun Sarin shortly after hearing the news and he said he talked to Siya about a song collaboration just a day before. All seemed "alright", he said.

The news of Siya's death comes just two weeks after Bollywood mourned the death of Sushant Singh Rajput who also died by suicide.
