Leslye and Kelly Rivera are breaking their silence after they were allegedly stabbed by their brother, UFC fighter, Irwin Rivera.

On Friday Channel24 reported the 31-year-old allegedly stabbed his sister while they were sleeping.

"I killed my sisters," he later told police after fleeing the scene, adding that he was compelled by a "higher power".

Speaking to E! News Kelly Rivera says her brother wasn't in his "right mind" at the time of the incident.

"I was with him that whole week, and I knew he never slept and sometimes barely ate," she said. "He was battling with something we couldn't admit to seeing, and I regret not helping out sooner."

Leslye also said she felt her brother had "fallen into an unstable mind state".

Kelly added: "I was always his little girl and he always protected me and cared for me, which is why [I know] he would have never in the right mind do what you all think he did."

The family is standing by the athlete with his mother telling Mexican publication Milenio, he "lost his memory and something evil took over him a few days ago. His mind was blocked. He wasn't himself".

Irwin is being held without bond in a behavioural health facility after a judge granted an emergency order at a hearing on Friday. He is facing two counts of attempted murder.
