Queen Elizabeth made her first appearance since husband Prince Philip was laid to rest when she conducted two virtual audiences from Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

The queen spoke to Ivita Burmistre, ambassador from the Republic of Latvia, and Sara Affoue Amani, ambassador from the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, via Zoom. There are more than 170 ambassadors and high commissions based in London. Each have an audience with the queen after taking up their role, and Her Majesty was seen beaming as she returned to royal duties.

The royal family marked the end of the mourning period, which lasted two weeks after Prince Philip's death, on Friday. Last week, on the occasion of her 95th birthday, however, the queen released an official statement thanking the public for their support.

"While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world," she said. "My family and I would like to thank you all for the support and kindness shown to us in recent days. We have been deeply touched, and continue to be reminded that Philip had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life."
