A new royal portrait showing the future of the British monarchy has been revealed.

On Saturday, Buckingham Palace released a new portrait of King Charles III, The Queen Consort and The Prince and Princess of Wales.

Royal photographer Chris Jackson took the portrait at Buckingham Palace on Sunday, 18 September, the night the family hosted world leaders who travelled to London for Queen Elizabeth's funeral on Monday, 19 September.

In the photo, Charles, Camilla, William and Kate are all dressed in mourning black. It is especially significant as it marks the first official depiction of the monarchy's future after the queen's death.

Previous reports state that the new king plans to pursue a slimmed-down monarchy, while the future king and queen in waiting have brought a more relaxed and personal touch to the monarchy in recent years.
