  • To celebrate his 99th birthday, the royal family has released a new photo of Prince Philip with the queen.
  • Their Royal Highnesses are currently self-isolating together at Windsor Castle.
  • An insider shares it's Philip's naughty sense of humour that has kept the queen going during these dark times.

Happy birthday to His Royal Highness, Prince Philip!

The royal turns 99 on 10 June – and to mark the special occasion the palace has released a new photo taken at Windsor Castle, where Their Royal Highnesses are self-isolating together amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The photo shows the prince standing alongside his wife, Her Majesty, The Queen, and both look well as they pose for the camera.

For his birthday, Prince Philip has asked to have a "low-key" and "no fuss" lunch with the queen.

Though the queen is looking to get back to work "as soon as she possibly can", an insider says she is in "excellent spirits" and particularly enjoying spending time with her husband. "They have dinner together in the evenings and I imagine the queen is of the generation where she dresses for dinner," the source revealed.

As for what keeps the queen going during times of crisis such as this, another source says it's Prince Philip's naughty sense of humour.

"He makes her laugh, he's got a slightly naughty sense of humour, a sense of the ridiculous that keeps her amused," royal expert and managing editor of Majesty Magazine, Joe Little says, according to Express.

And we know all about Prince Philip's inappropriate jokes that has the queen chuckling. Remember that time Philip's cousin, Patricia Mountbatten, commented that Queen Elizabeth's complexion is flawless?

The prince apparently quipped: "Yes, and she's like that all over!"
