Cape Town – The live-action Barbie movie is taking sometime to lift off.
Sony announced the making of the film in 2014 since then it has suffered some setbacks. (Read more here)
Amy Schumer originally signed on for the role but had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
Earlier this week news broke that Anne Hathaway is in talks to play the role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Hathaway has yet to negotiate a deal.
Schumer gave the Oscar-winning actress her nod of approval.
Alongside a picture of herself she wrote: "Hathaway smathaway jkjk she's perfect!! Can't wait to see it!"
According the IMDb synopsis the film will centre on a doll living in 'Barbieland' who is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world.
Australian director Alethea Jones is in talks to helm the film and Amy Pascal will produce.
The movie is scheduled to be released in June 2018.
