A Crazy Rich Asians spin-off film is in the works at Warner Bros.

According to Deadline, the film will centre on Astrid Young Teo's character, played by Gemma Chan and her romance with Charlie Wu, played by Harry Shum Jr.

Barry producer and writer Jason Kim will write the script.

People reports that it will be based on the second book in the series by Kevin Kwan, China Rich Girlfriend. It will focus on Astrid and Charlie's romance; they were previously engaged, but her parents didn't see him as a suitable match and broke them up.

In the film, Astrid left her husband Michael (Pierre Png) after discovering he was cheating on her.

The 2018 romantic comedy starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding was a box office hit, grossing $239 million. Two sequels were announced shortly after the film's release.

In September 2019 co-writer Adele Lim exited the project due to a pay disparity, reported The Hollywood Reporter. In March, IndieWire reported that Amy Wang replaced Lim.
