Cape Town – The 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards celebrated inclusivity and empowerment.

Shazam star, Zachary Levi hosted the annual awards held in Santa Monica.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was awarded the MTV Generation Award in his speech he said that embracing himself allowed him to carve his own space in the industry.

"The most powerful thing we can be is ourselves," said the 47-year-old former wrestler.

Other highlights include Jada Pinkett Smith receiving the Trailblazer award, and Brie Larson who won Best Fight Award brought her stunt doubles with on her stage to recognise them for their work.

Drawing inspiration from Sister Act 2 Lizzo brought the audience to their feet with an energetic performance of her hit Juice, and singer-songer writer Bazzi performed a captivating rendition of his song, Paradise
