Universal has put the brakes on the release of Fast & Furious 9.

The ninth instalment in the franchise was initially scheduled to be released in May 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was then pushed back to 2 April 2021 and again to 28 May 2021. It will now release on 25 June.

The film's official Twitter account shared the news writing: "The family returns 25 June. Only in theatres."

According to CNN, the delay comes after the United States President Joe Biden announced that the country would have enough vaccines available to vaccinate every adult at the end of May.

The upcoming film follows the events of The Fate of the Furious. Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel) and the family must face his younger brother Jakob (John Cena), who has teamed up with their old enemy Cipher (Charlize Theron).
