Based on the book series by Nancy Springer, the 16-year-old will play Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Sherlock (Henry) and Mycroft Holmes (Sam).

According to the official synopsis, Enola's mother (Helen Bonham Carter) disappears on the morning of her sixteenth birthday. Enola then finds herself in the care of her brothers who want to send her to a finishing school.

Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London. But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord (Louis Partridge), Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history.

According to Variety, the estate of Arthur Conan Doyle – the creator of Sherlock Holmes - has filed a lawsuit alleging that the film infringes on the Holmes stories that are under copyright.

They claim that the film 'depicts the legendary detective as warm and friendly, a characterisation that only appears in the final 10 Holmes stories'.
