A female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean is in the works.

Christina Hodson has signed on to the project. The writer has credits on Bumblebee, The Flash, which could see Michael Keaton reprise his role as Batman, and Birds of Prey.

Margot Robbie, who worked with Hodson on Birds of Prey, has been cast in the Disney film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce the new Pirates film. Although he's produced others in the franchise, this film will not be a spinoff of the Johnny Depp movies or the already announced reboot.

The film, which is in the early stages of development, will have an original story and all-new characters, according to Entertainment Weekly
