The fourth season of Stranger Things is at the top of Netflix's all-time viewing rankings for English-language shows, with over 1.15 billion hours clocked – and counting.

From reviving old music classics, such as Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush, and Metallica's heavy metal tune, Master of Puppets, to breaking hearts everywhere with some of the most emotional scenes – there's a reason why the sci-fi horror is so popular.

See what we thought of Volume 1 and 2 of the highly anticipated fourth season:

Volume 1

Rating: 4/5

The volume of Stranger Things' fourth season delivered what it promised, or perhaps over-delivered, and a lot more mystery surrounding the Upside Down is unravelled, finally satisfying its audience with some massive twists. I remain excited for what's to come, but it's teetering on the edge of being overstuffed. Hopefully, the Duffer Brothers will learn from the mistakes of that other major TV show and avoid the pitfalls of flying too close to the sun.

Volume 2

Rating: 5/5

Stranger Things' latest season has been one heck of a ride, as longer episodes have turned this darling streaming show into a multi-movie juggernaut. With the final two episodes - Papa and The Piggyback - totalling almost four hours together, one might think that its creators, The Duffer Brothers, have gone a little mad with power. However, those hours are barely felt as you follow these beloved characters fighting a force so much mightier than them, eternally petrified that that next scene will mean the end of your favourites. Afterwards, you might feel like you've run a marathon, with very few quiet beats to give its audience a rest from the mayhem, but the payoff is well worth it in the end - or in this case, the beginning of the end.
