Director Gina Prince-Bythewood's work has always turned the gaze on black female characters who are strong, vulnerable and multidimensional; from the pop culture classic Love and Basketball to the Secret Life of Bees, it tells stories outside of stereotypical narratives.

With The Old Guard, Prince-Bythewood became the first black woman to direct a major comic book movie. It broke records in its first four weeks on Netflix in 2020.
