Wonder Woman shows off her new armour on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

Gal Gadot reprises her role as the warrior princess the upcoming sequel Wonder Woman 1984.

In her next big-screen adventure - set in the 1980s - she has to face off against two new enemies: Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) and The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig).

The poster and trailer gave us a tease of the character in her Golden Warrior armour, and now Entertainment Weekly has exclusive pictures.

Fans of the comics need no introduction to the armour which makes its first big-screen appearance.

Director Patty Jenkins got her inspiration for the costume from ancient Roman soldiers, reports the publication.

Academy-award winning costume design Lindy Hemming spent hours working on it. It weighs about 19kgs and is made of carbon fibre.

Speaking about the costume, Lindy says "in the light it's always liquid, moving. There's a feeling of non-flatness…. Because in the comics, she does fight her mightiest battles in the golden suit."

Wonder Woman 1984 opens in SA cinemas on Friday, 5 June.
