Global Citizen is bringing musicians together once again to support the battle against Covid-19.

On Monday the organisation, along with the European Commission, announced the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future event, which will feature artists like Yemi Alade, Shakira, Coldplay, Usher, Chloe x Halle and Miley Cyrus.

The event will be hosted by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and will be broadcast globally on Saturday 27 June.

The event aims to "highlight the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has on marginalized communities -- including people of color, those living in extreme poverty, and other communities facing discrimination," a statement on the Global Citizen website explains.

Besides the musical acts, the show will also include appearances by Charlize Theron, Hugh Jackman, Kerry Washington and Chris Rock.

South Africans will have access to the concert via the SABC and Multichoice Group's platforms. It will also be streamed on platforms like Twitter and YouTube.

"It's time to fight for the world we need. I'm hosting @Glblctzn's GLOBAL GOAL UNITE FOR OUR FUTURE. A concert premiering on JUNE 27th that will shine a light on the work we can do to create a healthier future for everyone, everywhere," Dwayne Johnson shared on Twitter.

Before the concert, Global Goal: Unite for Our Future -- The Summit will be taking place. The event will allow world leaders to make pledges to help fight the coronavirus and support disadvantaged communities. A petition has also been set up that people have been encouraged to sign. "Sign the petition, make sure the world's most vulnerable are protected against COVID-19," it reads on the website.

Global Citizen has previously hosted the One World: At Home Together concert to help raise funds for the battle against the coronavirus. The show featured SA stars like Sho Madjozi, Cassper Nyovest and Black Coffee.
