The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has paid tribute to iconic singer Sibongile Khumalo after news of her death broke on Thursday.
According to a statement released by Sibongile's family, the singer "succumbed to stroke related complications" following a "lengthy period of illness", Arts24 reports.
Paying tribute to the legendary songstress, RiSA's CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said in a statement: "As someone who had the privilege to meet and know Mama Sibongile, I know she will be remembered for her youthful exuberance, generosity of spirit and the matronly role she played in the industry. Her music will live on for generations to come. On behalf of RiSA we send our condolences to her family, her fans and supporters and the greater South African music loving public. May her soul rest in peace."
Sibongile's death is yet another blow to the South African entertainment industry, coming just days after the death of iconic jazz artist Jonas Gwangwa.
