The date for the 27th annual South African Music Awards (Samas) has finally been revealed.

The show, hosted virtually once again, makes its return to SABC 1, airing on 31 July at 20:00. For all the red carpet glitz and glamour, fans can tune into RGB on SABC 1 at 19:30 on the night.

In an interview with Channel24, Samas spokesperson Lesley Mofokeng promised that this year's show would be a "one-night extravaganza", adding that organisers were working on creating more of a "live" feel this time around.

The hosts for the 2021 awards still have not been revealed, but a press statement notes, "there is no doubt that they will add their star power and vitalise the proceedings to keep the show a thrill-a-minute and pacey production".

About the event, RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said: "We are delighted that the SAMAs have returned to SABC1 and we promise a show befitting the calibre of musicians nominated this year. Against all odds and the challenges of Covid-19 lockdown we have managed to curate a memorable one-night extravaganza experience that will be entertaining and keep our loyal audiences on the edge of their seats. July 31st is a date."
