- The Fetch Your Life hitmaker will open for American singer Gregory Porter during the Johannesburg leg of his South African tour.
- Before announcing her break, Msaki released her new single, Zibonalakise.
Ahead of her five-day opening solo performances for American singer-songwriter Gregory Porter for the Johannesburg leg of his shows, award-winning singer-songwriter and composer Msaki announced she was leaving music and social media.
Porter performs at the Teatro at Montecasino on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Before breaking the news, the Fetch Your Life hitmaker thanked her supporters for the outpouring of love and support and asked them to understand why she had to "leave this space".
"Please release me. I may seem weak for letting this get to me. But I am sensitive and sentimental, an empath (this is my most valuable creativity tool), my skin is not thick… It is porous, so I feel the changes in the breeze," she wrote in a lengthy post on social media. "I'm moved quickly and deeply, and I understand this may be abnormal. I don't expect everyone to understand, but I know some of you get it."
She added:
Msaki, real name Asanda Lusasenu Mvana, continued to say she was "excited" to honour her remaining commitment, adding she would share her final gig guide. She said her team would use her pages as a "notice board" while she would "design a space where I connect with the real ones more intimately in time".
"I will miss you, the jokes, the wrong versions of my lyrics, the memes. You have been so kind to me most of the time. Pray for me to have the energy I need to close well. I think of you all and will always attempt to write and sing us better. This is my calling, and I remain devoted to it."
Shortly before the announcement, Msaki also released her latest single, Zibonakalise. In a recent interview, she said her upcoming performances in April and June would be the final ones until 2024.
