  • The singer has also revealed that she directed the music video which includes a scene of her lying naked on a floor covered in colourful gum-balls.
  • 'I was born to run; I don't belong to anyone," Miley sings in the upbeat track which comes not long after her split from boyfriend Cody Simpson.

Miley Cyrus is back with new music.

The singer, who recently split from boyfriend Cody Simpson, has made it clear that she cannot be tied down in her new track, Midnight Sky.

"I was born to run; I don't belong to anyone. Don't need to be loved by you," she sings.

In an Instagram post, Miley revealed that she also directed the music video, which dropped on the same day.

Scenes in the video include shots of the star lying naked on a floor covered with colourful gum-balls and a disco scene where statues of wild animals surround her.

In early August, Miley readied her fans for new music, telling them to "Meet Miley Cyrus.... again [sic]" in a Twitter post.

Along with the caption, the singer shared an old music video for her 2008 track, Start All Over

If you thought the tweet eluded to the return of a tamer Miley, sorry to disappoint. The singer has re-established herself as the husky-voiced rocker who can't be tamed.
