Taylor Swift reveals who the characters in her song, betty, were named after

  • In a clip shared by a fan, Taylor is heard saying that the characters in the song, betty, have been named after her friends' kids.
  • James and Inez (mentioned in the song) are the names of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's first two daughters, leading everyone to assume that Betty is the name of the couple's third child.
  • Taylor is a close friend of Ryan and Blake and has previously used their daughter, James', voice on her song, Gorgeous.

Taylor Swift is well known for hidden messages or meaning in her songs, so when fans heard her track, betty, off her folklore album, they were quick to draw up their own theories as to who the song is about. 

Well, wonder no more, because the singer has revealed the people behind the characters in the track. 

In a radio clip captured by a fan and shared on social media, Taylor explained that the song is written from the perspective of a 17-year-old boy. 

"I've always loved that, in music, you can kind of slip into different identities, and you can sing from other people's perspectives, so that's what I did on this one."

So who are the character's named after? Fans were quick to spot that James and Inez are the names of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's first two daughters, leading them to believe that Betty must be the name of the couple's third child

While Ryan and Blake have yet to confirm their third daughter's name, Taylor, who is a very close friend of the couple, mentions in the clip: "I named all the characters in this story after my friends' kids."

According to People, "a source with knowledge of the situation" told the publication that the song was named in part for Blake and Ryan's third daughter.

Taylor has also previously used the voice of Blake's daughter, James, on her track, Gorgeous
