  • Award winning musician Taylor Swift is set to release a 'surprise album' on Thursday.
  • Taylor made the announcement on social media, saying: "Tonight at midnight I'll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I've poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into."
  • Together with the album, she will also be releasing a music video for the track titled Cardigan, which was filmed while adhering to social distancing, and hygiene practices.

Taylor Swift announced on social media that her eighth studio album, titled Folklore, would drop at midnight on Thursday.

"Most of the things I had planned this summer didn't end up happening, but there is something I hadn't planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise Tonight at midnight I'll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I've poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into," she wrote on Instagram.

According to the post she recorded the album in "isolation" but collaborated with some of her "musical heroes."

She added that although the year before she might have obsessed over the "perfect time" to release new music, 2020 has taught her that "nothing is guaranteed."

"My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That's the side of uncertainty I can get on board with," she wrote.

Folklore will have 16 songs on the standard edition, but the physical deluxe editions will include a bonus track titled The Lakes.

In addition to the album release, Taylor also revealed that she would release a music video for Cardigan, which she wrote and directed.

Taylor explained that the shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, and the crew adhered to strict hygiene practices.

"I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling," she said.
