Shabbat, an after-party and a fun run: 5 things to do at Cape Town Pride 2020

If you're thinking of taking part in the festivities at Cape Town Pride this year, we've got you covered with this fun rundown of events. Every year some members of Cape Town's queer community come together to support each other. 

Some of the events have a conscious undertone, while others are just frivolous fun. It can be a fun experience to meet and share common ground as well as express differences in what is a space that is intended to be safe and welcoming. 


To make planning your weekend easier I've rounded up ten events for you to enjoy, whether you want to connect with others in a meaningful way or dance the night away, you're likely to find something on this list. 

1. Pride Shabbat

Date: 28 February 2020

Venue: Temple Israel Green Point, 5 Upper Portswood Road, Cape Town

Time: 18:00

Price: Free

Description: Join the Jewish LGBTQIA+ community of Cape Town at Temple Israel in Green Point for the 8th annual Pride Shabbat. The service starts at 18:00, and all are welcome to join the communal brocha afterwards. Dr Anastacia Tomson will give the sermon and share some of her life journey with other members of this community, at this significant service.

2. VISA & Pride Networking Event

Venue: Park Inn by Radisson, 9 Heerengracht St, Foreshore, Cape Town

Date: 28 February 2020 

Time: 18:00

Price: Free

Description: Join Cape Town Pride for an informative evening of talk and networking.

3. Cape Town Pride Mardi Gras 2020

Venue: Reddam Field, Green Point

Date: 29 February 2020

Time: 12:00

Price: R50

Description: Who doesn't like a fabulous parade on a leap year? This year's Cape Town Pride Parade is going to be bigger and better than ever with bands, floats and community groups all standing together for our community! Get there from 11:00 so that you're ready to start of 12:00!

A group will be travelling down the Fan Walk to the destination at Reddam Field at Green Point Urban Park!

4. Crew Bar Pride Festival After Party

Venue: Crew Bar

Date: 1 March 2020

Time: 16:00

Price: Free entry with Pride Day pass until 20:00 from there afterwards R30 GA and R100 VIP.

Description: Crew Bar will be one of the clubs for the Pride Festival After Party! There will be two main dance floors, 8 DJs, Gogo Dancers, Drag performances, VIP and Girls only Area! Crew bar will open its doors from 16:00, Tau will open doors from 20:00. 

5. Impulse Active – Fun Run

Venue: Mouille Point Lighthouse

Date: 1 March 2020

Time: 15:00

Description: Bringing you closer to a healthier lifestyle with the first fun Run to be held at Mouille Point Lighthouse. Call it a cure for your Pride hangover, a push towards that New Year's resolution or an excuse not to go to that Grindr date you were never going to anyway.

Don't fret, it's just a 5km run, or you can walk if you're a shy runner. It's a FUN RUN - so come dressed in your...most carefree outfits. Don't forget your smudged mascara from last night, that eye candy from the club and whatever's left of your dignity.

Yes, you'll be rewarded for your efforts – from refreshments to Pride merch & Impulse goodies. And yes, we've also got something BIG – if you win the race though.
