Gospel singer Israel Mosehla has reportedly died. He was 50.

Israel's wife Millicent Mosehla confirmed the news to TshisaLIVE on Monday, saying: "Yes, Israel has passed on."

No other details surrounding his death have been made known. 

The Soweto-born musician was part of a gospel group called G. Effect in 1985 before branching out as a solo artist. Between 2003 and 2005, Israel, together with G-Effect, toured the USA, the UK and Brazil.

In 2007 he opened his own record label, Kgabo Music Productions, and released the album Endaweni Ephakeme, nationally and locally.

Gospel artist Lebo Sekgobela said on Twitter following Israel's death: "A very sad day today! May your soul rest in eternal peace."

"You sang at my dad's funeral two years ago. My heart is aching as I hear of your passing. My heart is heavy. I need grace just to get through the show today. Oh Modimo, bona bana ba hae le mofumahadi," tweeted  Lesedi FM radio DJ, Twasa.
