Johannesburg – On Friday Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi revealed her national costume which she will be wearing at the Miss Universe pageant on 8 December.

The event, which took place at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton (Johannesburg) also served as a send-off for the beauty queen who will be jetting off to Atlanta in the coming days for the competition.

As part of the #HeForShe campaign and her ongoing work as an activist against gender-based violence, Zozibini asked South African men to pledge their support by writing love letters to the women of South Africa, which she then incorporated into her national costume.

The dress was designed by Lloyd Kandlin and has been named "Wave of Love." The colorful ribbons, placed all around the bodysuit include messages written by the men of South Africa.

Zozibini also revealed the evening gown that she will be wearing on the global stage, which was designed by Biji La Maison.

The 25-year-old public relations student was emotional on stage, as the crowd, which included her parents and siblings, cheered as we walked down the runway.

The Miss Universe contestants will not be taking a national gift this year, but instead they taking along a soft toy which will be given to charity.

Zozibini will be taking a long a doll, designed by for former Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane. Known for encouraging body-positivity and inspiring women of colour to be confident in their own skin, Bokang's range of dolls are dark-skinned with natural hair

Miss Universe 2019 will air on 9 December at 2:00 on 1Magic DStv channel 103.
