After a two-year break of not being able to attend Polo in the Park due to the Covid-19 pandemic, local celebrities donned their best fashion foot forward on Saturday.
Equestrian sports enthusiasts, socialites, and those interested in one of Africa’s premier cultural sporting events gathered at the second Standard Bank Polo in the Park in Steyn City.
The first took place in 2019.
African Deluxe Company alongside Standard Bank invited the likes of Kefilwe Mabote, Liesl Mthombeni, The Wife stars Kwenzo Ngcobo, Bonko Khoza and Real Housewives of Durban stars LaConco and Kgomotso Ndungane.
The host of the day was Homeground presenter Minnie Dlamini, dressed in a red flamboyant Gert-Johan Coetzee dress.
Mabote, digital entrepreneur and author, dawned the polo in a blue garment by Maryzo Designs.
"You know how the Polo is. We just want to look extravagant. I told her that I need a bit of feathers and play with her creativity," Mabote described.
"Polo in the Park is all about mingling, the horses, the cars and fashion. As much as the stars are there for the horses, the atmosphere is all just exciting."
Standard Bank spokesperson Kabelo Makeke said, "Since Africans are known for their innate style and brilliant use of colour in their dress, some spectators find it worthwhile to attend such an event for the fashion."
"The sports field itself also brings thrills and inspiration as polo is fast-paced, action-packed and even described as addictive by some," added Makeke.
The main match took place between the Steyn City Polo team vs Standard Bank Polo City, with the former winning the game by 12-8.
Sandile Dlamini, founding member of the African Deluxe Company and producer of the event said, "We have created an event that speaks to the high expectations of players and spectators alike. We are especially excited to bring polo fans back together again after the uncontrolled two-year hiatus."
