- Rolene Strauss was advised to lose weight as a 16-year-old model.
- According to the former Miss South Africa, the incident marked the "beginning of a change," as her confidence started to fade.
- Rolene will be sharing more of the personal stories which shaped her in her upcoming book, to be released on Friday.
At 16 years old, Rolene Straus was advised to lose weight if she wanted to have a successful modelling career.
"I'm sharing this very personal experience with you as it had a significant impact on my life and growth..." Rolene captioned the very personal story on Instagram.
"In was a Spring afternoon in 2008, and I was only sixteen years old and had been given the opportunity of a lifetime," Rolene wrote, sharing photos of herself as a young model.
At the time, Rolene had been offered a three-month modelling contract with Elite Model Management in Paris, and a few weeks before her departure, she had her measurements taken by an agent in Pretoria.
"She took the measuring tape and started measuring my hip circumference. 'It's 95 centimeters', she said with a raised eyebrow. 'We'll have to get it down to at least 90 centimeters, little lady,'" Rolene shared with her 311 000 followers.
Rolene goes on to say that it was the "beginning of a change" for her and that her natural self-confidence started to fade.
The mother-of-two says that the experience motivated her upcoming "exciting" project - her new book to be released on Friday.
