Cape Town - During an interview with Masechaba Ndlovu and Mo Flava on Metro FM, Babes Wodumo claimed that her long-time boyfriend, Mampintsha, had physically abused her.

Following the interview Masechaba had come under fire by listeners of the show, saying that the Wololo hitmaker had been "ambushed."

According to several online publication, Babes' father, Revered Welcome Simelane, has released a statement lambasting the Metro FM host, saying Babes was "caught off guard."

Speaking to The Juice SABC Spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, said that the SABC fully stands behind the manner in which Masechaba conducted the interview.

He takes the stance that Masechaba had a "responsibility to expose what is happening."

"There has been reports about the alleged abuse in print publications before, but as it happened on radio for some reason people are only reacting now."

He makes the example that when he calls a press conference on a particular matter the media will take the opportunity to ask him about other issues.

"She might have been on the show to promote her album, but Masechaba did what she had to do, and took advantage of the situation to ask about the abuse allegations," he says.

He adds: "Babes had the opportunity to answer or decline to speak up."

He also talks about the prevalence of domestic abuse in the media right now, and says that: "It is our responsibility as a media house to deal and speak up on these issues."

Mampintsha has since released a statement saying that he is "no saint" and appeared on the same radio show asking people to "pray" for the couple.
