South African actor Shaleen Surtie-Richards has died at the age of 66.
According to reports, the actor was found dead in a guest house in Cape Town on Monday. "It is common knowledge that she suffered from diabetes and heart problems, and her death could be linked to that. But, the family are still awaiting the autopsy results," said Surtie family spokesperson Alistair Izobell.
Speaking to Channel24, Alistair said a funeral service for the actor would take place on Sunday, 13 June at Durbanville Memorial Park, Cape Town, at 14:30.
According to the Durbanville Memorial Park website, the chapel can accommodate only 36 people, adhering to strict Covid-19 protocols. The service will be broadcast via a live stream on various digital platforms. Further details to be released later this week.
In a statement to the media, the Surtie family further said: "We have lost a sister, an aunt, a cousin and a niece, and we are trying to process, to come to terms and to still our broken hearts. We understand that she was not only in our hearts but in the hearts of this great nation, and we thank you for your love, support and respect as we prepare for her final curtain call."
