Sho Madjozi arrives home after BET win: 'The rest of the world is so excited about African music'


Johannesburg – Dozens of fans gathered at OR Tambo International airport in Johannesburg on Monday to welcome Sho Madjozi home. 

The Tsonga rapper made history when she became the first female African artist to walk away with the BET award for Best New International Act

The energy at the international arrivals gate was electric as many people from the Limpopo province, where Sho is originally from, gathered to show their support.

The muso's mother, Rosemary Phaweni, as well as Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, were also there to welcome the star back.

Speaking at a short briefing held for the press, the rapper was excited about her win, saying that African artists are able to shine across the globe now more than ever.

"Right now, the rest of the world is so, so excited about African music, and I just hope that we notice this, and that it doesn’t just become this thing that's like a trend for Americans to do briefly. We should be in the center of it."
