Cape Town - Simmi Areff is known for telling it like it is, no sugar-coating!

In his brand new one-person show, Love And Other Jokes, he explores the whimsical tales of his love life.

He seemingly has all the answers - but take them with a pinch of salt - because he wouldn't be sharing his story if his love life was better than yours.

Love And Other Jokes is coming up at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton on the 27 and 28 September.

Simmi says he first tried his hand at comedy when he was 17.

"I watched a live stand-up show in Johannesburg. The next week I took part in an open mic event at varsity. The guest comedian took my number and started booking me for gigs."

But he wasn't always the class clown Simmi explains, saying: "I was the short, fat kid, who didn't speak much."

What would make a comedian laugh? "My dad makes me laugh every day. He is just overtly funny in every single moment of the day," says Simmi.

On a more serious note, Simmi is using his voice to create awareness and taking a stand, and all proceeds from his show will be going to FEMMEPROJECTS - a non-profit organisation with an all womxn, youth-led directorship.

"As a man as I feel we need to be listening more and speaking less. With that being said, we are in a challenging and trying time in our country, and it's going to take a collective effort to get back on the correct path," he says.
