South Africa's Louw Breytenbach walked away with the title of Mr Gay World 2021 during a virtual crowning on Saturday.

The 2021 edition marks the first time in the pageant's history that two men will reign at the same time - Louw shares the title with Leonard Kodie Macayan from the Philippines.

Hailing from Boksburg in Gauteng, Louw is the third South African to clinch the title since the competition's inception in 2009.

"I am so blessed and thankful to every person who made this possible!! The crown is in Africa for the first time in a decade," said Louw, who is a presenter on VIA's Drama Mammas, in an Instagram post.

He went on to say: "69 countries in the world still criminalize homosexuality, and 29 of them are in Africa - I want to be a driving force to change this and challenge this along with my existing charities."

According to Louw, the road to the crown was not easy, and he encourages those facing obstacles in their life to stay strong and push through those difficult situations.

"Your future self depends on you getting through today's struggle. You are so worthy," says Louw, who has overcome mental illness, and financial difficulties.

"Here is to all those who love freely, loudly and boldly. We did it," he said, thanking everyone who supported him on his journey.
