Johannesburg – They may not have walked away with the gold, but these former Idols SA contestants are still making waves in the local entertainment industry.

Despite not making it to the top of their respective seasons of the reality show, these stars have created chart-topping hits, proving themselves as some of SA's best.

You know what they say – winning isn’t everything.

Take a look at 4 successful local singers who took part in Idols SA and did not win:

1. Shekhinah

As the youngest contestant of her season in 2012, Shekhinah made it all the way into the top 6 before leaving the competition.

Since then the star has given us hits like Please Mr, Suited, and Let You Know. Her debut album Rose Gold has also been a major hit with fans.

2. Kyle Deutsch

A close friend of Shekhinah, Kyle took part in the 10th season of Idols SA.

Since then the hunky singer has teamed up with Shekhinah and Sketchy Bongo on popular track Back To The Beach in 2016 and had success with his own songs which includes Can't Get Enough

3. Amanda Black

One of the most sought after local acts right now, Amanda Black's name was on everyone's lips when she dropped her massive track Amazulu in 2016.

Amanda first shot to fame when she took part in the 2015 edition of Idols SA. She may have lucked out in the competition, but she's been winning since then.

4. Dominic Neill

Like Shekhinah, Dominic was also on the eighth season of the show in 2012, making it all the way to the top 7.

It was in 2016 when he was featured on DJ Kent's track Love You Still that fans really started to take note of his amazing voice. The star has also been responsible for the popular song Out Of My League
