  • Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi celebrated International Day of the Girl Child by sharing a throwback photo of herself.
  • In the pic, Zozi is 11 years old and competing in a community pageant.
  • "This was my favourite part of the competition because I got to speak," she said of the photo.

Zozibini Tunzi joined a number of female celebrities in sharing throwback pics of themselves in honour of International Day of the Girl Child.

The beauty queen opted for a photo of herself competing in a pageant at the age of 11.

"I was competing in a small community pageant and I had made top 5. This was my favourite part of the competition because I got to speak," Zozibini said of the photo.

She continued: "I couldn't wait to show people what I had learnt from all the books I got from my grandmother and from our tiny community library. I was unafraid because I had the greatest weapons; Education and a dream!"

In the pic, little Zozi dons a shiny silver dress complete with white stockings. She ended her post with an encouraging message to girls around the world.

"To every young girl..This is from 11 year old me. You are an incredible force, don't let that spark die. To every woman..you are doing an incredible job keeping those promises you made to yourself as a young girl [sic]."

Also taking part in the challenge was Charlize Theron and Nomzamo Mbatha.

While Charlize shared a pic of herself from her primary school days in Benoni, Nomzamo posted a photo of herself as a cheerleader at the age of 10.

"I look at this little girl and I remember how big she dreamed. How BOLD she was... Who would've thought that from a small little corner in South Africa, that little smile would be where it is now," Nomzamo wrote.
