Skeem Saam actor Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa died on Tuesday.

The cause of death has not been made public. 

Hailed "the father of township theatre," Rapetsoa had a celebrated career spanning decades in stage and film.  

The actor played the role of Malome Josias on the SABC 1 drama Skeem Saam and mentored the late Charles "Big Boy" Maja, who died in April. 

Matome Rapetsoa confirmed the news in a Facebook post, writing: "It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our father, brother and colleague...Mr Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa, "Bra Paul" passed away today at 18h56, May your wonderful soul Rest in Peace Mokwena."

"We approach the end of 2020 with heavy hearts," tweeted Skeem Saam. 

"Rest In Peace Bra Paul, you will forever be remembered and sorely missed. We keep his family in our prayers," the tweet continued.
