  • The actor detailed in an Instagram post how her pregnancy gave her strength in the months following her mother's death.
  • "You have changed me in ways that are inexplicable. We cannot wait to meet you," she wrote to her unborn child.

Uzalo actor Gugu Gumede is expecting her first child.

The star announced the exciting news on Instagram in a lengthy post she shared with her 1.1 million followers.

She began the announcement with a Bible verse, writing: "Samuel 1: 27-28 'For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him'."

In the post, Gugu, who plays MaMlambo on the SABC soapie, detailed how her unborn child gave her strength after her mother, National Freedom Party leader Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, died in September 2021.

"I have often been asked where I got the strength to continue after my mother's passing - I got it from my unborn child. At her funeral, as I stood at the podium and spoke on my queen's behalf, I was not alone. The strongest heart was beating inside of me, reviving me. I am alive today because of it, [sic]" she wrote.

"My baby, you are your grandmother's answered prayer. She was so excited to meet you; even though you did not get to meet in the physical realm, I know she is currently holding you in the spiritual. My darling, every move and every kick of yours within me is a testament of both God and my mother's continued love for me. You have changed me in ways that are inexplicable. We cannot wait to meet you, [sic]" she continued.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Gugu said that although those close to her have known "all along" about her pregnancy, she had been waiting for the perfect time to reveal her pregnancy to the world.

" has been an exciting journey," she said.
