Johannesburg – Cape Town singer Ashur Petersen and his mom Madeegha Anders have gone viral on Facebook after sharing a video in which they covered the classic Aladdin track A Whole New World.
Ashur, who is the son of slain musician Taliep Petersen, posted the video on his Facebook account and before he knew it, it had already garnered over 4 million views.
"A friend of mine messaged me to say: 'This is HUGE for Cape Town' and then it hit me. This video is far bigger than my mom and myself. This is for my people. The Capetonians," Ashur wrote in part, dedicating his success to artists who don't get recognised for their work.
"If only the world knew about the talent that we breed in this land, we'd be unstoppable. Slowly but surely, Cape Town is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with," he added.

Talent definitely runs in this family. Aside from Ashur and his mother being gifted with beautiful voices, the young star's sister Fatiema had everyone blown away when a video of her covering a track from The Greatest Showman went viral.
Ashur was also a contestant on SA's version of The Voice.
