2. Princess Diana’s Wicked Stepmother (Showmax)
On the 21st anniversary of the death of the people’s princess, stream this eye-opening documentary about the truth behind Princess Di’s relationship with her stepmother, socialite Raine Spencer, described as a “barbed wire powder-puff” by the media, and resented by Diana and her siblings. When Diana married Charles, at the age of 20, she may have thought she was escaping her stepmother, but when her sham of a marriage finally fell apart, Raine was her unlikely saviour.
3. The Affair, S4 (DStv Now)
Whatever you do, don’t Google The Affair Season 4 - unless you want to find out about the shocking event in the finale. The first two episodes of the new season are up on DStv Now and ready to stream. Noah, Alison, Helen and Cole are each on their own separate journeys this season, each hoping for a fresh start in the arms of someone new. Noah’s back in LA, and teaching again, but can’t stop the memories of Alison from surfacing, while Alison meets a handsome stranger who comes to her rescue...
4. Jamestown, S2 (DStv Now)
The three fierce young women from 17th-Century England, who were duty bound to travel to the New World and marry the early Virginia settlers, are back on our screens. This new season holds a lot of change for Jocelyn, Alice and Verity, with Alice expecting her baby any day now, and the troubling arrival of the Angolan slaves at the end of Season 1. The women aren’t going to take anything lying down - and when a horrific crime rocks the community, they’re instrumental in bringing down the suspect. Catch up on Season 1 of Jamestown by streaming it on Showmax before you start Season 2 on DStv Now.
5. Deadwind (Netflix)
Looking for a new Scandi noir thriller to get your blood pumping? Netflix’s latest Original takes us to Finland, where we meet Detective Sofia Karppi, who’s just suffered the sudden loss of her husband. But she’s got work to do - investigating the murder of a woman with ties to a major Helsinki construction company. If you’re a crime thriller aficionado, this dark, gristly 12-part series is one for you.
6. The Innocents (Netflix)
June and Harry are teenagers in love. To escape their difficult home lives, they run away together, but soon things start taking a terrifying turn. They meet a man called Steinar, who claims to have been sent by June’s missing mother, and June realises she’s got supernatural abilities that could place her and Harry in grave danger. They end up in London, homeless, with no one to turn to except Steinar - but how do they know they’ll be safe with him? And what do June’s powers have to do with her mother, who’s now in Scandinavia?
7. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (Amazon Prime)
Finally, the day we’ve been waiting for - the launch of this Prime Original starring John Krasinski as Tom Clancy’s accidental secret agent. He’s actually a humble CIA analyst, but when his skills are needed to uncover the threat of a new breed of terrorism, he’s thrust into field work “for the first time, actually” (to paraphrase a moment from the pilot). Is he cut out for this kind of danger? This is a whole new Krasinski - as much as we love him as Jim in The Office (the boxset is available on Amazon Prime, too, just FYI), we can’t help but admire this new, chiseled version.
