The sun always shines on TV. Perhaps nowhere brighter than just before sunrise when co-anchors Sakina Kamwendo and Leanne Manas stride with purpose into Auckland Park's Studio 11 at 05:00 for the day's edition of Morning Live on SABC2.
It's four-and-a-half years since Sakina Kamwendo joined Leanne Manas in June 2018 as co-host for the three-hour morning show on SABC2 and SABC News (DStv 404 and SABC+) between 06:00 and 09:00 - a show which has become one of the most valuable TV assets in the South African public broadcaster's programming trove.
With buoyant ratings, Morning Live overshadows anything else on South African television in the morning – whether terrestrial or pay-TV – with the show far ahead of competitors in total eyeballs compared to the likes of SABC3's Expresso, e.tv's The Morning Show, or any of the South African TV news channel morning show offerings on satellite pay-TV.
