Mzansi Magic telenovela DiepCity will not be returning for season 3 when its second season comes to an end in March 2023.

"Mzansi Magic would like to announce that it will be bidding farewell to the riveting award-winning telenovela, DiepCity," the channel said in a press statement.

"The series will conclude with its current second season – the final episode will air on 3 March 2023, ending the show on a triumphant 240-episode run."

Set in the Johannesburg township of Diepsloot, the telenovela debuted in 2021 and followed the lives of residents as they walked the thin line between poverty and prosperity, legality and crime, and the impact of their decisions.

"Since its debut in April 2021, DiepCity has added colour, life and heart to our channel, and it has continued to give us dynamic and enthralling storylines," M-Net director of local entertainment channels Shirley Adonisi said in the press statement. "We would like to thank the production, cast and crew for their commitment to the series, dedication to their craft and consistent hard work."

In the statement, the channel added that it would maintain a working relationship with Black Brain Pictures – the production house behind the telenovela.

"DiepCity was a massive winner at the 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards, taking home seven gongs, including Outstanding Daily Drama, just months after its premiere," the press statement continued. "It has been nominated for 10 South African Film and Television Awards this year. The series has also consistently earned praise for its stunning cinematography and incredible soundtrack."

DiepCity's cast included Mduduzi Mabaso, Dawn Thandeka King, Nozuko Ncayiyane, Nompumelelo Vilakazi, Hamilton Dlamini, Vele Manenje, Obed Baloyi, Lebohang Mpyana, Zikhona Bali and Kgaogelo Monama.
