  • A new series on SABC 1 will tell the stories of people who were duped and dribbled by love.
  • One of the people featured spent his sister’s life savings, another's boyfriend swindled her and other girls out of their hard-earned cash.
  • Fooled By Love premieres on 22 August at 18:00.

From buying a partner a car and rejecting family and friends to splurging inheritance funds, SABC 1's new documentary reality series, Fooled By Love, will showcase the stories of people who lost big thanks to their love lives.

The series features the stories of people who made sacrifices in the name of love, told by a narrator. Fooled By Love premieres on SABC 1 at 18:00 on 22 August.

"In this show, lovers take on the journey of what they did, gave, and lost while fooled by love. The viewers will re-live their mistakes to learn from their pitfalls on how the public can spot and avoid red flags in umjolo (dating)," the channel said in a press statement.

"The lovers humorously re-tell the story in hindsight to marvel at how love can dupe or dribble the best of us and how we can learn as we take the viewers through an epic love story."

The series features the stories of Andile, who did "stupid things" because of love with his sister's R100 000 life savings; Sharlini, whose boyfriend swindled her and other girls out of their hard-earned cash; Seth, who had to pay off a R150 000 loan after his girlfriend disappeared with the money he borrowed to start her business and Bongekile who paid her lobola and found out her husband went behind her back and planned a secret wedding with another woman.
