According to Variety pre-production for uBettina Wethu begins next month with filming set to start in January and will premiere on the SABC in April 2021. This will be the first remake featuring a Betty who is Black.

The series will be produced by KAE and Moonlighting Films. Producer Tshepiso Sello said that getting the rights and financing for the show took four years, but she is thankful that they are at the next step now.

About the show, Tshepiso said uBettina Wethu is the story of a rural girl who gets a job working for one of Joburg's eligible bachelors. She overcomes challenges and wins both his heart and excels in business.

"It's a wonderful, universal story that has been told in more territories worldwide than any other franchise and we are so happy to be bringing it to life in South Africa," said Sello.
