The Duffer Brothers, the creators of the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, made some important announcements about the series in an open letter to fans on social media.
The science fiction series starring Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, and Caleb McLaughlin follows a group of friends who witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits.
First the good news, the long-awaited season four will be divided into two parts: Volume 1, which will premiere on 27 May and Volume 2 will release on 1 July.
"Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one. Everyone is incredibly proud of the results," wrote the brothers.
Now for the not so good news, the show will end with season 5.
"Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons.
They continued: "It proved too large to tell in four, but as you'll soon see for yourselves - we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 is Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last"
The brothers teased that "there are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes."
